Moleskine: Note to Self
- The more time we spend with computers and keyboards, the more special Moleskine notebooks become. After all, there’s only so much self-expression you can get out on Twitter. So step away from the screen, give the iPhone (and the Blackberry) a breather and start thinking with a pen and paper. Sketch in Moleskine’s pages or write — it doesn’t matter. Just remember that diaries can come in handy some day. A batch of James Joyce’s notebooks sold for $11.7 million. Just saying.
- Take notes during our Moleskine sale, which starts Thursday, December 31, at noon ET.

I'm Gilty: Erin
Oakland student and fashion blogger Erin Hagstrom was snapped by her boyfriend in her latest Gilt purchase – a Steven Alan skirt. We caught up with the 26-year-old to chit-chat about leggings, vintage, and the allure of sparkly trinkets.
How did you put together this outfit?
The day before this photo was taken, I found the blouse and the sweater in a thrift store. I got home and realized they went together really well. And the skirt just pulled it all together.
How would you describe your style?
It’s a mix of designer and thrift. I find stuff in thrift stores and at estate sales at least once a week – it’s pretty much an addiction, and affordable for a student like me. But I also covet certain new pieces. I don’t go to the mall very often, but I browse online every day.... Read more

Company of We: Fashion's Democracy
- Launched earlier this year, the Company of We is already making big waves in the world of men’s style by designing cool, well-made clothes that look a lot pricier than they are. Gilt Man decided to go straight to source — designers Christopher Crawford and Jayzel Samonte — to find out what all the fuss is about.
- Who is ‘We’?
- JS: Until very recently, ‘We’ was solely Christopher and I. I laugh because we never in our wildest expectations anticipated the torrent of attention we would get from launching this tiny e-commerce site after subjecting ourselves to a weekend of HTML for Dummies. It really spawned from the simple idea that we should all be able to indulge in a pair of Lanvin sneakers once in a while and still have enough room in our wallets for a great cashmere blazer. Or two.
- What’s been the best part of the experience so far?
- JS: Selling out of our debut collection’s entire stock in eight days.
- What was the hardest piece to design?
- CC: It wasn’t necessarily a piece of clothing so much as introducing new elements to basic pieces. I think guys like to have a familiar pattern, and introducing a new element to a design without making it unwearable is a delicate balance.

AIAIAI: Hear and Now
- Remember when your Walkman would skip from "When Doves Cry" to "Purple Rain" every time you punched your brother? The guys at AIAIAI sure do – that’s why they’ve created an entire line of vintage inspired headphones. These have the same, simple lines of the early `80s, but underneath, it’s all 21st century sonic technology.
- And you’re going to need a pair of these if you plan on leaving your house for the next month – here’s a playlist we’ve put together to protect you from hearing “Jingle Bells” 13 times a day:
- “Innocence” (Simian Mobile Twelve Inch Remix) by Björk
- “Out of the Races and On the Tracks” by The Rapture
- “Black & Gold” by Sam Sparro
- “I Knew” by Lightning Dust
- “Sex on Fire” by Kings of Leon

Rogan: Smooth Talk
- New York City-based clothing and furniture designer Rogan sits down for a light-hearted chat about the namesake brand and what he’s up to for the holidays.
- How was it all started?
- I was born in Boulder, Colo., in 1980ish.
- So, you are the brand. Do you remember the first garment produced by Rogan?
- All I can remember is that it was black.
- Wait, are we still talking about your birth? What’s the philosophy behind your designs?
- Soulful minimalism. Less is more… more or less – with the rare exception of more lessness.

Hickey: The Suit Case
Everyman needs at least one good suit in his closet, but don’t save it for interviews and board meetings. Loosen up the tie – which Hickey also makes very well – unbutton the jacket and take your pinstripes out for a stroll. Here’s how to do it:
- Hoodie: Pair your jacket with a thin hoodie. It’ll relax your look without bulking you up.
- Henley: Pick a waffle-knit Henley to dress-down the suit. To really make it casual, throw on some leather boots and jeans and ditch the suit trousers.
- Puffer Vest: Put on a scarf and throw a puffer vest over your suit coat. It’s warm; it’s light and would do well with a wool tweed hat.
(Illustration by Michael Hoeweler)- Suit yourself in our Hickey sale on Thursday, December 17, at noon ET.

Chocolat Moderne: Confection Perfection
- Joan Coukos Todd left high finance to create a better bon bon. Today she’s living her fantasy, melding morsels of grapefruit, caramel, fig and mint into mouth-watering sweetmeats for Chocolat Moderne. The results? Magnificent.
- You used to be a banker. How is playing with money like playing with chocolate?
- Chocolate tastes better. But chocolate costs are high, so you do have to handle it carefully. You have to be very detail oriented. But being a chocolatier is an art form. ... Read more
