Converse: Past Perfect

Converse: Past Perfect

Converse is as ingrained into American history as apple pie and George Washington. The iconic shoe brand has made a huge impact on our culture since they’re debut back in 1908. Converse’s early years involved making auto tires and outfitting pilots during World War II. They’re pioneering efforts in the shoe trade catapulted a young sport called basketball into the forefront of American athletics. And we all know about their ongoing contributions to Rock and Roll and sports. While you’re deciding which pairs to purchase today, here’s a reflection on a few styles from the 1920s through the late 1970s.

Walk the line in our Converse sale on Thursday, April 1, at noon ET.

Victor Glemaud: Fine and Dandy

Victor Glemaud: Fine and Dandy

With almost three years behind his brand, New York-based designer Victor Glemaud talks with Gilt Man about his men’s clothing line. A modern-day dandy, Glemaud resides in the South Street Seaport neighborhood of Manhattan but can often be spotted on a leisurely bike ride throughout the city’s streets. The perfect reflection of his label.

What inspired you to start your own collection?
At the time, I was living in Paris and couldn't find another job. While on vacation in Ibiza, I had this idea for a men’s collection. I made that first collection in six weeks. I was inspired by what was missing from my wardrobe – mixed with my late father's impeccable style.

Tell us about the idea behind this collection.
Spring was about surfers and skaters in Los Angeles – seen through the eyes of a New Yorker who can't do either.

If you could only use three words to describe your aesthetic, what would they be?
Fun, charming and funny.

Go for a stroll in our Victor Glemaud sale on Tuesday, March 30, at noon ET.

Seize sur Vingt: Roll with It

Seize sur Vingt: Roll with It

It’s no secret that Seize sur Vingt has some of the best shirts on the
market. The line's ready-to-wear and bespoke shirts are both produced with
only the highest-quality fabrics. But now that spring is here, sleeves
will be rolled, ties will be loosened, and buttons will be undone. If you’re
looking for something more interesting than the usual sleeve roll, here’s a tip on how to stay cool -- pun intended, of course.

1. Fold your sleeve in half, bringing the cuff up to your bicep.
2. Take the lower portion and fold it in half again, creating a roll
below the cuff.
3. Smooth it out and make it neat -- the bottom of the roll should rest
above your elbow. Leave some of the cuff visible.

Roll on into our Seize sur Vingt sale on Friday, March 26, at noon ET.

Sustainable Shopping with ABC Carpet & Home

Sustainable Shopping with ABC Carpet & Home

ABC Carpet & Home has long made it chic to care about the environment. An early proponent of green design, the Manhattan-based company prides itself on ethical practices in all aspects of its business, from sourcing to production. As the world’s largest retailer of rugs, it also knows its carpets, carrying everything from antique Orientals to Madeline Weinrib’s contemporary designs. So who better to ask about balancing sustainability with style when shopping for a floor covering? The ABCs of the subject, from ABC Carpet & Home:

• Choose a rug woven from renewable natural fibers such as wool, silk, jute or seagrass
• Opt for carpets that use vegetable-based dyes
• Select a handwoven rug, which will last longer and wear better than a machine-woven one
• Consider gently worn antique carpets
• Check with the manufacturer to ensure it compensates its artisans fairly

• View rugs as an investment that can be passed down for generations to come rather than as a disposable purchase

Tread lightly at the ABC Carpet & Home rug sale, starting Friday, March 26, at noon ET.

Gilt Home’s Blue Period

Gilt Home’s Blue Period

From royal to robin’s egg, blue packs an emotional punch. The color has inspired artists as wide-ranging as Monet and Yves Klein — and it’s even had a musical genre named after it. In interior design, blue is loved for the calm feeling it imparts and for its ability to help people focus, making it a favorite for bedrooms, bathrooms and home offices.

To honor the benevolent power of azure, Gilt Home will host a blue-themed sale this weekend. Inspired by House Beautiful, My Blue Haven will feature dozens of ways to add all shades of the hue to your living space, from rugs and bedding to furniture and accents. ... Read more

Gilt Man Sponsors the Subaru Freeskiing Championships

Gilt Man was proud to be the presenting sponsor of the Subaru Freeskiing Championships this past weekend in Snowbird, Utah. We had a tent right on the tram plaza packed with HP Touchsmart computers so spectators could become Gilt Man members and enter to win a heli-ski trip as well as terrific ski gear from big names such as The North Face. Gilt Man banners flanked the mountain, and we even did a photo shoot with five of the top competitors! Check our Facebook fan page to see the photo shoot.

Pantherella: Socks Appeal

Pantherella: Socks Appeal

An often-overlooked part of our wardrobe, these days the sock has started to get the attention it deserves. With the rise of pant hemlines (literally), men are giving more thought to what’s covering that potentially exposed ankle, and a bright-colored or patterned sock can really help a suit go from boring to brilliant. That’s where Pantherella comes in. The British company invented a new way of producing lightweight men’s socks that immediately swept the industry by storm. All, while using top notch materials. That’s why you’d never want to throw these Pantherella socks in the wash like any old sock. Here’s how the company suggests taking care of your fancy footwear:

Cashmere Socks: You wouldn’t throw a cashmere sweater in the machine, would you? So why would you machine-wash cashmere socks? Cashmere should be hand-washed in warm water with like colors, and then left to dry flat. Never tumble-dry or iron cashmere.
